About Papa J’s Wood & Slate

Crafted with heritage. Inspired by service.
I’m Scott—known to many as Papa J, a nickname gifted by my daughter during her teenage years that’s stuck ever since. After 35 years of dedicated service in the Royal Air Force as an aircraft engineer, I’ve worked on some of the most iconic platforms in British aviation: the Tornado GR1 and GR4, Nimrod MR2, and Puma HC1 and HC2. My career has taken me across the globe, with postings in the United Kingdom, Germany, deployments to the USA, Canada, Italy, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, the Falkland Islands, Iraq, and Afghanistan. Each location, each aircraft, and each mission has shaped the way I see precision, pride, and purpose.
Papa J’s Wood & Slate was born from that same spirit—combining technical mastery with emotional storytelling. Every piece I create is more than just an engraved slate; it’s a tribute to service, legacy, and connection. Whether it’s a commemorative plaque for a retiring crew member or a custom design celebrating squadron heritage, I bring the same attention to detail and respect that I gave every aircraft I maintained.
Rooted in Lincoln, with deep ties to RAF Waddington and the surrounding community, my work is MOD-licensed and crafted to honour the stories that matter most. From the roar of the Red Arrows to the quiet pride of a veteran’s mantelpiece, Papa J’s is here to help you celebrate service with soul.
